iPad SMACKDOWN

iPad SMACKDOWN

We are getting ready to have our first iPad SMACKDOWN  this week.  Our 1:1 iPad school is rockin’ and rollin’ with the iPads and it’s time to come together to brag a little on each other. Rather than have a sage on the stage for PD, the teachers are going to take the floor for 2-3 minutes to present one success with an app, a lesson, a project, or whatever they have learned using the iPad in their classroom recently. Entertainment wrestling has nothing on us! Bring it on!

Here is the iPad SMACKDOWN invitation flyer I made using the free site: SMORE.

This is an embedded file and it seems to come across as narrow. In reality, it looks like a regular 8.5×11 page.  Here is the direct link to the flyer if you want to compare the look of it.

Creating with SMORE

Actually, the SMORE flyer site was incredibly easy to use. It took me about 15 minutes to create the flyer and fine-tune the layout. SMORE makes it easy to create a finished flyer without having to know anything much about desktop publishing.  Options for inserting media include: pictures, video clips, audio, as well as changing the background and fonts. Once the flyer is complete, there are several options for distributing the flyer to your audience. Its fast, easy to use, and looks better than “home-made!”

SMORE would be a great creation tool for students to use to present information in the form of an announcement. My music students, for example, could create a concert announcement featuring a composer and giving a brief bio. Since there are options for inserting media, it would be possible for students to demonstrate mastery of the recorder or record themselves singing or playing another instrument. There isn’t room enough for an extensive project. However, it is perfect for two – 30 minute music class times.

I’m looking forward to the unique ways our teachers have found to infuse technology into their flow of learning. I’ve learned so much I have no clue which  idea or app I should share. Maybe there will be several rounds and we can go more than once.

Thanks for dropping by! In addition to the iPad SMACKDOWN, I wanted to share the cool flyer that was so easy to create using SMORE! I hope you’ll check it out!

Bring it!

I teach elementary music, am passionate about integrating technology into my teaching, am obsessed with my SMARTBoard and iPad, and enjoy creating lessons and sharing ideas. I love technology almost as much as I love cheesecake, and with more energy and ideas than I know what to do with, I can't wait for the sun to come up each morning! I'm wife to Prince Charming and mom to three incredible girls who keep me balanced. . . sort of!
